What are some common blocks for creatives and how to overcome them

Most creative people and artists have some common blocks but why am I talking about this and what are the blocks in particular?

What are the typical blocks for creative people

Creativity always begins with our feelings. A creative person wants to express these feelings using art as an outlet. However, expressing our deepest feelings in public means, we are vulnerable. There is a fear of being criticised for it, which is a problem for a creative person and could be a huge block to pursue their creative passion because of the worry what other people think of them. Each form of art is your own unique expression of yourself. It is simply not possible to create, write a book or song and not be talking about your own experience because we view the world through the lens of our feelings and the past. Your feelings are your muse for your projects.

Another typical block for creative people arises from being too much in your head and trying to think carefully about what to create, instead of trusting the flow and letting the idea come to you. Don’t think, just feel. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It is self-conscious and lousy.

Artistic blocks also occur when we are searching outside ourselves for inspiration if we try to force a successful creative project to appear. These blocks stem from discounting our own beautiful and inspirational natural and normal feelings and experiences.

Others may try to figure out what will succeed in the marketplace. But hey, this is not your authentic self. This comes from a place of lower energy vibration, from a sense of neediness. The question we ask is: “What can I get out of my customers?” The product you create carries lower energy vibration, and it does not come from your heart. That is a taking energy and keeps you away from success and fulfilment. But isn’t that what we are looking for? Fulfillment? Doing what we love doing and getting rewarded for it?

How to overcome these creative blocks

Great question. Instead of trying hard to think and search for ideas outside; search within yourself. Start with your current feelings. How do you feel right now? Are you feeling sad, happy, content or peaceful, melancholic or untangled? Notice your feelings and face them, you then receive inspired ideas to creatively express your feelings in a way that will not just help you but also others who feel the same way.

When creating your art, come from your heart. Ask yourself: “What can I give to my customers?” Giving energy is high vibrational and guarantees you success in the marketplace. There is an old saying about writers: “God gives writers (and other creatives) talent, but if we misuse this talent, it goes away.” This means if you create without inspiration and only for the money, god will take away your talent. This statement is helping us to stay focused on creating art from our heart and a giving place. Of course, you need an income to pay your bills. Unless you are independently wealthy, you will need a job. I will talk about more about how to make money from your art at another time.

This post is not about the “starving artist”, this is just another typical blocks artists have. We all want our creative projects to succeed because the more people purchase your art, the more people receive your healing intention.

I encourage you to fully notice and express your feelings, the higher the vibration of your art will be. Any attempt to hide your feelings will lower the energy vibration.

There are so many more disempowering beliefs blocking creative people from moving forward in what they love doing. I am going to talk about the common theme of addictions for creatives and how you can overcome it next week.

Welcome to my weekly law of attraction reading. I am using the deck from Esther and Jerry Hicks :

For the week of the 25 September 2017 I pulled the following card:

“I am selfish enough to want to feel good.”

You cannot perceive life from any perspective other than from that of yourself….Selfishness is the sense of self. Unless you are selfish enough to care about how you feel – and therefore direct your thoughts in such a way that you are allowing a true connection to your INNER BEING – you have nothing to give another anyway. Everyone is selfish. It is not possible to be otherwise.

Life is a mirror

Life is a mirror. Everything in your mind will be reflected back at you. So watch out what is going on in your mind and what you are thinking.

Once you understand this concept, this is a life changer. If you are being negative, you send out negative energy vibrations and guess what? You will receive negative results. Once you learn how to shift your thinking and being positive, your energy level will increase and you will harvest your fruits. However, it is not as easy as it sounds like.

Unfortunately just having a desire does not necessarily give you what you want. That’s why lots of people who tried the law of attraction are failing and blaming this not to be true. The problem is your energy in your body. Everything is made of energy. I believe everybody has some sort of issues and baggage to deal with and if you believe in past lives, some of the problems might even stam from there. Subconsciously we might hang on to a certain belief system which can be triggered by some negative experiences from this or past lives if you believe so. You can think as positively as you want, you won’t get it because subconsciously you are blocking yourself. The best way to deal with this is to acknowledge your problems and to let go. For some people yoga or meditation is the way to get aware of all the little issues and false belief systems we have. Once you realise, let it go and write down your true new believe. You can feel a shift in your energy and will notice how suddenly the law of attraction is working.

I love the photos below which reflect the beauty of the world we live in and everybody can see. The only thing we need to do is to open our mind and heart. The second photo reflects the mirror of our life.

What a dramatic sky. I was at home being sick when the light in my living room turned into a golden pink, I looked out of the window and could not believe what I saw. I quickly grabbed my camera and took a photo of the trees in Gunnamatta Bay, Cronulla, from my balcony. The colours blew me away.

First I was disappointed not being able to go down to the bay to take photos but I was saying to myself to be creative instead. In the end I loved the result, different and not a typical sunset photo.

I was playing around with that photo in the Macphun softwares. The result of my creativity is the following photo:

Photos that make you want to visit Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica

If you appreciate pure nature, are interested in observing wildlife and love relaxing on beautiful beaches watching an incredible sunset, then Costa Rica should be on your travel bucket list.

Manuel Antonio National Park faces the Pacific Ocean in central Costa Rica. This part of Costa Rica encompasses rugged rainforests, white sandy beaches and coral reefs. Costa Rica is known for its vast diversity of tropical flowers and animals. The National Park is roughly 680 hectares huge and has a variety of different hiking trails, which lead you from the coast up into the mountains.

If you are keen on hiking through the rain forest, you want to make sure you can see all the wildlife and not missing out on anything. I, therefore, recommend booking a guided tour through the rain forest. The guides use a large telescope and know the forest and their inhabitants inside out. They spot tiny little animals you would have never guessed finding on your own.

Without the tour guide in the Manuel Antonio National Park, I would not have been able to spot this caterpillar.

Who would have found this tiny grasshopper in the middle of the rainforest without the local guides and their telescopes?

 

Know when to bite your tongue.
You can see the white-faced capuchin monkeys when strolling through the rain forest. Unfortunately, this species is endangered. These two guys in that photo were fighting and chasing each other.

The three-toed sloths are one of the Costa Rican locals. They are very slow in moving from one spot to another. Their faces seem to smile all day long. When you walk through the rain forest, take your time and see if you can spot them in the trees.

It is the largest species in the genus Ctenosaura and has been recorded as the fastest-running species of lizard.They have distinctive black, keeled scales on their long tails, which gives them their common name. The males are capable of growing up to 1.3 meters in length, and the females are slightly shorter, at 0.8–1 meter.

Besides the tropical animals you will notice the most beautiful colourful flowers in the rainforest:

Lots of you will notice this beautiful orchid, however, to see it growing in the wild rainforest is fascinating.

Costa Rica has also plenty of options to go on boat trips for snorkelling in the coral reef. On the way you might be lucky to see dolphins and whales:

What to do to fight your fears from getting what you want

Let’s start with the good news. Fear is learned; you are not born with it, which means you can unlearn it.

Fear is sabotaging our success. People are mostly scared of failure, rejection or loss in any area of life, such as job, finance, and love. We avoid risks altogether and will miss out on the most incredible experiences and success we could face.

The most frequent reactions to fear are being paralyzed and not to do anything. It is the typical “I can’t do” attitude, the fear of failure and loss. This type of fear can be severe. You might feel your heart starts pounding; your mouth and throat go dry, and your breath might be affected. This type of fear shuts down your brain and causes to revert to the ‘fight-or-flight’ reaction. To live with fear is horrible as it affects our happiness and holds us back in our entire life if we don’t start doing something about it.

Below are some tips on what to do to fight the fear in yourself:

  1. Be aware of what are you scared of and why

The first step to healing your fear is to be aware of what scares you. Not everybody knows that.  The next question is why are you feeling fear? Write it down.

Once you worked out what exactly it is, confront your fear. It might be a particular person or situation. Deal with it and don’t allow this to make you unhappy.

2. Go through your list of reasons, try to analyze it and move on in life staying positive

Are your reasons due to your belief or because of one or more bad experiences you have made? If that is the case, try to switch around your mindset. Is your idea real or just imaginary? If your fear relates to bad experiences you have made, attempt to get rid of it in your mindset. Remember the positive experiences and forget the negative ones. I know it is hard and sometimes not possible. Even though remember, everything happened for a reason. Maybe God was just telling you very loudly to change your life as you were not happy at that particular moment and the change was needed, but you were too comfortable in your situation? Whatever the reason was, remember only the positive things and believe that something better is waiting for you. Sometimes we need that push to realise that something better is out there for us. Don’t assume that your past issues will repeat all your life. It will when your mindset stays negative, and you keep yourself remembering the bad things.

Facing your fear and moving towards it, will ensure your fear is diminishing.

In contrast, when you move away from your fear it will become larger. It will then dominate your thinking and feeling, preoccupies you during the day, and often keeps you awake at night.

3. Imagine your bright future

Your mindset and how disciplined you try to fix it will be the determinator of your success. Visualise your bright future with whatever you desire. Imagine as if no fear exists. You will see how your world around you will change suddenly.

Act as if, walk and talk, and carry yourself exactly as you would if you haven’t had any fears. Stand up with confidence, smile, move with courage. Feel a certain way and you automatically will act the same way.

Do the things you fear until that fear eventually disappears. At the same time, your self-esteem will go up, your self-respect increases and you will be proud of yourself. You never know, but you might end up in a situation where you are not afraid of anything.

The benefits of forgiveness

Lots of us have been hurt in some way. It might have been your parents, your colleagues or boss might have sabotaged you or your partner betrayed you. The wounds can stay with you forever, you may feel bitter and full of anger, you might start to believe that everybody will do this to you. You start losing trust in others, which is eventually damaging you. A friend of mine was saying once: “Don’t let anyone rent space in your head for free.” I know it is easier said than done, but try to imagine all the bad things happened to you, put all of it into a big balloon. Can you see the problems floating around in there? Now get ready, burn it and let it go into the sky. See how it destroys itself and all your negative issues are gone? I know, it is not as simple as that, but you get the point.e

Forgiveness is the hardest thing to do, but once you do, you will open up for the better. Let go of the grudges and bitterness, don’t hold on to anger and wishing the worst to the person who has hurt you. This will only bring more negativity. Instead, forgive, even though it is hard. You will realise how much your heart will start to open. New and great things will be happening to you. Embrace peace, hope, gratitude and joy.

How do you forgive and what does it mean?

It is your decision to let go of resentment and anger. Whatever it was that hurt you might always remain part of your life, but forgiveness can help you to focus on new and more positive things. You might even feel empathy, and you understand the situation better, or you feel compassion for the one who hurt you.

Forgiveness does not mean you deny the other person’s responsibility, and it does not justify what happened. Forgive that person without excusing the act. It will benefit in moving your life forward.

What other advantages can you get from forgiving others? It will bring you:

  • Healthier relationships
  • Greater spiritual and psychological well-being
  • Less anxiety, stress and hostility
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Fewer symptoms of depression
  • Stronger immune system
  • Improved heart health and
  • Higher self-esteem.

When forgiving that person, stop seeing yourself as a victim and release the control of offending the person and situation.

15 reasons why you should let go of your past

Letting go of guilt, anger, love, loss or betrayal is one of the hardest parts because we are mostly scared of change. We fight to hold on but also fight to let go. Once you have been hurt your soul is breaking, your perspective on life will change.

Even though it is hard, here are some reasons why you should let go:

  1. Let go of the things which do not serve you any longer, do not grow you or make you unhappy, only then you will live a happy and meaningful life you deserve.
  2. Some rejections in your life are only re-direction to something better.
  3. Letting go frees you from unnecessary stress and gives you a peaceful state of mind.
  4. It makes you a stronger person. Letting go means you leave your comfort zone and decide for taking on new opportunities.
  5. Letting go is not to say you don’t care about someone anymore, you just take ownership over your life.
  6. You don’t lose the things you let go. Instead, you lose the things you cling on to. Have you ever struggled to find a new job or love and you realised that you found it the minute you gave up? That is the paradox of letting go.
  7. You cannot move forward if you keep looking backwards. Unless you let go, forgive yourself or someone else or that the situation is over, you are not able to move forward.
  8. Forgiving is letting go of the past which gives you inner peace.
  9. Once you let go of the past, you are ready to have something better.

  11. Letting go gives you freedom and thus happiness.
  12. It means you know there is a future for you.
  13. The pain of letting go is less than missing your destiny.
  14. Let go of the life you have been planning, you open yourself to the life that God has in store for you.
  15. Do not force things which are not working anymore. If things are meant to happen, it will, if not, open up to new opportunities for something better.

The worst part of success is trying to find someone who is happy for you

This is a quote I am passionate about. You probably experienced this type of situation in your life where you achieved something major for yourself, or you are fulfilling your dream and people react with jealousy.

Don’t be jealous. Jealousy is being negative. You don’t want others to be successful? Why not, be happy for them, show your tears of joy. If you want to achieve or do the same, then do it and stop being negative about it.

Being happy for others is being genuine and positive, which attracts more of the good things in your life. It feels good if you are happy for somebody else. You can make similar choices in your life and have the same things if you want to. It is up to you. There is absolutely no need for being jealous.

Decide what to do with the time given to us

I love this quote from J.R.R. Tolkien. Make the most of every opportunity because life can be short. You never know what will happen tomorrow. So enjoy and be grateful for every day.

We cannot choose to live in other times or jump into the future immediately if we don’t like a current situation. However, you do have a choice about what to do in the here and now. It is your decision of how you want to live and what you want to do. Be grateful for the gift of life.

What is it you always wanted to do? Why are you still dreaming about it? Write down what you want and the reasons why you haven’t pursued it yet. Now read it again and be honest with yourself. Are your reasons excuses? If your answer is yes, then forget about the excuses and just do it. Do not waste any time.

Are you still not sure? Is fear holding you back? Now, that can be a serious issue. You most likely will not fail if your mindset is positive and if you do experience unpleasant things, take it as a lesson learned. You have nothing to lose.

Still not sure? Ask yourself if you would horribly miss out if there wouldn’t be a tomorrow? If the answer is yes, go for it and don’t hold back.

It is your life; you make the decisions of what to do in the time given to you.

For me, it was to fulfil my dream travelling to South America. It was the best decision I have ever made. The photo below is me after the hike to the Fitz Roy mountain glacier lake; it was an 8 hours hike return, exhausting but rewarding.

Don’t try finding yourself, create yourself

We are in control of our destiny; life is made up of our choices, and we create what we desire. However, sometimes we first need to find out what our purpose in life is or what we want to make the right decisions.

You will ask now; that sounds great but how do you create yourself?

Discover yourself first

Life can get busy, and we get caught up in unimportant things we do because we are used to it, or we are too busy with our jobs and work a crazy amount of hours. In those situations, it ‘s hard to find out what you want. We need the time out to reflect on ourselves and goals in life. Take your time either in the morning before you get out of bed or in the evening and write down what you always wanted to do. Ideas might not come to you straight away but writing about it every day might help you to find it. Make it a habit of writing down whatever comes to your mind. If that still does not help, do something new, e.g. meet new people and talk to them, learn from what they say and experienced. Get out of your comfort zone and do it anyways. You will be surprised what you might find out about yourself and what you want to achieve. Once your mind is getting clear about what you want, write your specific goals down.

Pursue your goal

Now it is time to focus on your goal and to work out an action plan. You might want to set smaller goals. Otherwise, it can get frustrating, and you ought to give up when the goal seems to be too far away. It helps you to keep motivated and determined.

Cancel everything that is not helping you in achieving your goals to have more time to focus on what really matters. Always open your mind and observe, you might find the solution right in front of you.

Be the person you want to be

Important is to be the person you wish to be, show your confidence. You will notice that people will recognise you even more. Ensure you are surrounded by positive people who support and can teach you. Stay away from doubters and complainers. Work hard, don’t give up and trust you will achieve your goal. It is in your hands. Nobody says that it will be easy, but it is worth going for it.

Don’t expect everything to happen straight away. Depending on your goal this might take a long time. Don’t give up.

Go and find what you desire and create your little world.
